“I remember a lady coming to me for a simple two part session to quit smoking, but it immediately became obvious that this was so much more than just a youth created addiction issue. She was depressed and to quit smoking would not have been possible unless both related issues were worked on. By the second session we saw a woman transformed, coming to see me with a new look, new hair, new clothes, makeup and a totally new woman had emerged from under the pall of the smoke and depression that had clouded her life.”
“A girl came to see me for hypnodieting, weightloss using hypnosis; she sadly spoke of always considering herself to be chubby, to never having had a waist and so wanted and was dedicated to work towards losing a target of 20kg in weight. After two sessions the weight was dropping and she called happily to say that a third session was not needed. 3 months later she called and invited me to lunch, she had lost the 20kg and was proud to have a waist for the first time in her life. Later though she called again to say that she couldn’t seem to lose any more weight, a session followed and found that unconsciously she had programmed herself for that first seemingly impossible 20kg goal, we removed and replaced that bit of self change and today she is a very confident woman who leads an active life with a new goal of becoming a Yoga Instructor.”
“Bad relationships can often be that we repeat mistakes over and over, and I do see a lot of men and woman coming to me with obsessive behaviour, which of course is very destructive to any relationships they build. One such lady came to me, very obsessed, repeatedly destroying her relationships. We worked together to change this behaviour, we worked on her self confidence and the results transformed her life, a life she now leads happily married and celebrating her first born child.”
“The last case I wish to share is the one of a visitor to Dubai that came to see me on her last day of her holiday; she was in her 60’s and had arthritis in her knees for about 40 years. Her son dropped her off for the session and returned to find much to his amazement to see his mum walking confidently and able to bend her knees and squat. I would have so loved to continue to see this wonderful lady to continue with further sessions, but unfortunately she returned to her home country the next day.”
What are the most common issues people come to you with?
Fear, panic attacks and anxiety
Depression and mood swings
Weightloss and binge eating
Smoking
Relationships and feeling unwanted or not loved
Alcohol addiction
Public speaking and social appearance
What is the most important thing you feel you want to tell people about hypnotherapy?
“Oh that’s easy, don’t come expecting some one session ‘magic wand’. Hypnotherapy is mind and emotional work, you need to believe in what you want and be committed and ready to achieve and trust me to work with you to reach your goals, and this combination will work every time and will lead you to success and to feeling free.”
So we don’t just lay back, sleep and wake up fixed?
“Absolutely not! Ok I concede you can lay back, to be comfortable but then it’s all down to the business of hypno-analysising you, and this involves a deep and detailed conversation with you, or rather with the sub-conscious part of you while in a deep hypnotic trance state.”
And then what happens?
“Together we find out the cause of your issue, and a lot of the time it’s something that happened in you when you were young and have been compounding for years. We then look at it together from an adult or different perspective, and come to terms with it, deciding on whether it is needed anymore and if not can the effort be redirected or replaced in the mind.”
So all you are really doing is reprogramming the mind, like a computer?
“Yes, but it is you the client that is doing it, all I do is guide and help you to do it right so that the change is permanent, that’s why when you quit smoking with hypnosis, the first session is to bring it to a stop, and in most cases pretty much completely, where as the second, and most important session is to make the change permanent, for life and to catch any issue that may be left.”
Some people fail at hypnosis, why is this?
“You have to believe and trust in your therapist and know that you can succeed, it’s no good ‘giving it a try’, or turning up ‘because my wife sent me’, because at the end of the day, all I can do is guide your sub-conscious mind to fix or as you said ‘re-programme’ your mind for the change to stick. It is your mind that is doing the programming, and if you don’t believe, that in itself is another programme doing the opposite of what is best for you.”
“The others are those that wanted the ‘magic wand’ one session fixes all, and this is most definitely not what hypnotherapy does, in fact deep down a lot of ‘one timers’ book a second session and then convince themselves that it isn’t for them.”
What about direct suggestion hypnosis, what’s that and what is your type called?
“Direct suggestion hypnosis is not really much deeper trance than a self help CD, some say that it helps to compound a sessions work, but that session needs to be a full and professional hypnosis session by a therapist that knows and uses multiple techniques and most importantly regression hypnosis.”
